School Counselor

Mrs. Counsell:

Mrs. Counsell has been a School Counselor at New Town Elementary for the past four years. She has her Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Loyola University-Maryland and her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Dayton in Sociology. In addition to state certification, she also holds a certificate as a National Certified Counselor. Prior to working for BCPS, she worked for both the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and Catholic Charities as a case manager. She is passionate about her family and being a mother to her young daughter. She also enjoys scrapbooking, reading, swimming, and watching football (Go Ravens!) in her free time.

S.T.A.T. Teacher

Mrs. Cox:

Mrs. Cox is excited to serve as the S.T.A.T teacher at the new Mays Chapel Elementary School. Mrs. Cox is a product of Baltimore County Public Schools and has been a Baltimore County teacher for the past eight years. After graduating from Coastal Carolina University with a B.A.E. in Early Childhood Education, Mrs. Cox attended Loyola University in Maryland where she received a M.Ed. in Reading Instruction and Development. Mrs. Cox began her teaching career at Dundalk Elementary School where she taught second grade and kindergarten. She then helped open West Towson Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher in 2010. For the past three years Mrs. Cox has worked at a Technology Integration Teacher and Technology Liaison at West Towson where she has learned how to integrate technology into the regular classroom environment. With all of experience that she has gained at West Towson she now comes to Mays Chapel to assist with the BCPS S.T.A.T initiative and Lighthouse pilot program, assisting teachers to integrate technology in a 1:1 setting. When not in school Mrs. Cox stays plenty busy chasing her 3 year old son and 1 year old daughter.

Reading Specialist

Mrs. Guanti:

After graduating from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Elementary Ed and a certification in Special Education, Mrs. Guanti began her teaching career as a fourth grade teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools. After four years, her journey brought her to Glenmar Elementary School, a BCPS school, where she taught 4th and 5th grades before working as a GT resource teacher. While on child rearing leave, she began to pursue her Masters in Reading, which she obtained and then returned to Glenmar ES as a primary (grades K-2) reading specialist. The role evolved into that of the reading specialist (K-5) where she had the honor to work with students, teachers, and parents at every grade level. The evolution of teaching and her desire to be a part of the changes occurring has led her to Mays Chapel Elementary. Jen is blessed to come home from a great day of learning and enjoy the company of her husband, daughter and son. Things that bring a smile to her face (and her soul) are a good book, a great meal, traveling, art, sports and live music.

School Nurse

Mrs. Lanier:

Mrs. Lanier began her nursing career is a BSN graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. After working in trauma for several years, she moved to Maryland and was a part of the Surgical ICU and adolescent pediatric units at John Hopkins Hospital. In 2007 she began her school nursing career at Glenmar Elementary, where she remained for 7 years. While at Glenmar, she earned her Master’s degree from the University of Maryland in Health Sciences Education. She enjoys the combination of health care and education that school nursing provides! Mrs. Lanier enjoys travelling abroad, where she has done a cartwheel on every continent but Antarctica! In her free time she loves camping, the outdoors, reading, gardening, and scrapbooking. Mrs. Lanier’s family includes her husband and young son, both of whom love to play soccer, and their beagle mix, Fitch.

ESOL Teacher

Mrs. O’Melia:

Mrs. O’Melia has been teaching ESOL (English for Speakers of Other languages) and Spanish for over 20 years. She received her BA in Economics from the University of Virginia, her MA in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin and took her teaching certification classes at UMBC. Mrs. O’Melia likes to read and travel with her husband and 2 teenagers when she is not teaching.

Building Operations Supervisor (BOS)

Sherrie White:

Ms. White has been with Baltimore County Schools for just over 16 years.  Starting out as a 3rd shift custodian at Perry Hall High and working at various others including Cockeysville Middle and Hereford Middle.  Ms. White became a Building Operation Supervisor in 2000 and has been at Padonia International and Timonium Elementary.  Ms. White is a Navy Veteran having served 12 years as an Electrician.  Ms. White enjoys camping, boating, and time spent with her 5 sons and 2 grandchildren.
