Special Educators

Mrs. Shimkaveg:  

Mrs. Shimkaveg graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. Mrs. Shimkaveg has been a special educator in Baltimore County for 11 years. She has taught at both Chatsworth Elementary and Oliver Beach Elementary.  She is passionate about providing the best education for all students. Mrs. Shimkaveg has 2 children and her husband is also a special educator in Baltimore County. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and hanging out with her family.

 

Ms. Specht:

Ms. Specht is a graduate of Towson University with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education (Elementary-Middle). She received this degree in May 2014, and is relocating from Long Island, New York. Her passion for Special Education developed at an early age and continued to grow throughout both of her internship experiences with Baltimore County. Her first internship was at Pine Grove Middle School where she worked with a 7th grade self-contained pre-algebra class. Here she had the opportunity to co-teach with several general educators. Her second internship was at West Towson Elementary School where she worked with students in 1st-3rd grade and had the opportunity to co-teach as well as small push-in and pull-out sessions with students. Ms. Specht is thrilled to be a first year teacher at Mays Chapel!

Para-Educators

Ms. Carr:  

Kimberly Carr, Para-Educator:  Ms. Carr has been working in the field of education for the last 10 years.  Ms. Carr will be joining the Mays Chapel staff as a para educator.  She is excited to be assisting both the staff and students at Mays Chapel.  She is an extremely proud mom of four sons, ages 17, 14, 11, and 9. In her limited free time, she enjoys watching her sons games, cooking healthy vegetarian meals, exercising, and spending time with family and friends!

 

Ms. Dalton:

Ms. Dalton is excited to have the privilege of being a paraeducator at Mays Chapel Elementary. Ms. Dalton will provide support to the teachers and students at Mays Chapel during the school year. Ms. Dalton has worked in the field of education for over 30 years. She has been an elementary classroom teacher, a special educator, and an ESOL tutor in Baltimore County and the Archdiocese of Baltimore. During her free time she loves spending time with family and friends. She is an avid animal lover and have two wonderful cats. She is looking forward to a great school year.

 

School Psychologist

Dr. Karl Fleischer:

Dr. Fleischer earned his doctorate in School Psychology from Penn State and worked in Pennsylvania for 3 years. He came to Baltimore County in 1996 and has worked as a School Psychologist at Sandy Plains Elementary School, Pikesville High School, Wellwood International School and the Chatsworth School. He believes very much in a child centered focus in working with students, teachers and families. Dr. Fleischer is married and has 2 children. He enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, running, and following sports.

 

Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP)

Wendy Guetler:

Mrs. Guetler has been providing speech and language therapy for BCPS students for 14 years. She began her career in 1997 at Sparks Elementary School.  During her eight years at Sparks, she also assisted other therapists with special projects at Pinewood Elementary, Lutherville Lab Elementary and Hereford Middle School.  In 2005, she took a two year maternity leave to spend time raising her family.  She returned back to BCPS in 2007 servicing students at Riderwood Elementary School.  Mrs. Guetler then moved on to Stoneleigh Elementary and has been working as the Speech-Language Pathologist there for the past three years. Mrs. Guetler values the personal relationships she establishes with her students and parents. She is committed to ensuring student success by incorporating student interests coupled with fun into her therapy sessions. She loves witnessing her students succeed and flourish with their speech and language skills.  Mrs. Guetler is a Towson University alumni.  She has a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Speech & Hearing Sciences. Mrs. Guetler is a huge Disney enthusiast.  She loves traveling to Disney World and going on Disney cruises with her husband and two daughters.  She also enjoys the outdoors, going on hikes with her family and two Labradors.
